A Springboard After School Day!
Springboard was developed by educators for the purpose of supporting your child’s academic achievement as well as their innate desire to learn! Springboard seeks to help students to see the fun in learning and byencouraging them to be curious. Springboard accomplishes this task by following the guidelines that have been put forth by the National Association for Elementary School Principals for after school programs (see the following web site for further details – http://www.naesp.org/ContentLoad.do?contentId=39/). This is accomplished through the following schedule:
End of the School Day – Staff Pick Up (staff pick up students from the dismissal area)
Den Time (students relax, get a snack and play games such as checkers, chess Nintendo Wii, board games). Attendance is also taken at this time
Circle Activity – (students participate in a circle activity designed to promote leadership, team building and social skills with their peers. Activities are structured and designed to focus on the Springboard “Core Values”)
Academic Support – Students work to complete their homework under the guidance and tutelage of licensed teachers who are available to help them through the “rough spots.” Teachers also check all homework to make certain that it is accurate, providing help and assistance to ensure that students comprehend their assignments.
Elective Time – Students participate in an elective that is provided by an “expert” in the field. Electives are designed to be exciting, fun and informative. Additionally, they expose children to areas of interest that can help to promote creativity (such as dance, music, art and physical activity).
